Nestle Pops Dodge N’ Pop 2009 in Boracay

15 May

A slew of celebrities recently hit the shores of Boracay to take part in a new and exciting way to enjoy the summer – beach dodgeball. The games saw action from the likes of Tisha Silang, Krista Ranillo, Cheska Litton, Marc Nelson and Magic 89.9 DJs Mojo Jojo, Mo Twister, Grace Lee and Andi 9, and others in exhilarating exhibition games in the Nestlé Pops’ Dodge ‘n Pop 2009 Summer Dodgeball Games.

The daylong competition, which marked the first time that an official dodgeball competition was played on a Philippine beach, saw thrilling matches that pitted 14 teams against each other for the coveted maiden championship title.

Tubs of Nestlé Pops, delicious bite-size vanilla ice cream nuggets coated in rich chocolate, were given out for free throughout the competition to the delight of spectators, who eagerly rooted for the participating teams. Nestle Pops, the only ice cream product you can eat with your fingers, was a great fit for the event, a perfect match to the quirky fun of the sport of dodgeball.

The champion Dragon team brought home P10, 000 and goody bags packed with fun prizes and a cool Philips GoGear mp3 player. Spectators were also treated to fun intermission games that featured cool summer prizes from Nestlé Pops, event sponsors Rider After Sports Footwear, Hawaiian Tropic and Nestlé Fruit Selection Yoghurt as well as media sponsors Magic 89.9, MTV, Sports Unlimited, Garage Magazine and Stella Magazine.

Nestlé Ice Cream executive Gel Angeles expects the same success when the beach dodgeball event is reprised next year and every year after that.  “The level of excitement experienced in today’s events truly highlights the fun one can get from Nestlé Pops. We hope to expand this competition into a formal annual summer sports event,” said Angeles.
